nPerf Speed Test / Press release
Barometer of mobile Internet connections
United Kingdom H2 2022 – H1 2023
Three provided the best mobile Internet performances, in the United Kingdom during the last two semesters.
This study is based on tests carried out by users of the nPerf mobile application, available for free on iOS and Android. Between July 1st, 2022, and June 30th, 2023, users of the nPerf app completed 98 072 tests in the United Kingdom.
The overall distribution of the tests per provider is as follows:
The nPerf study is based on thousands of tests carried out exclusively by the operators’ end customers, which makes it the “crowdsourced” study based on one of the largest panels of the country. These tests reflect the actual experience of the general public in the United Kingdom on the various Internet networks.
Three take the first place this year on the UK’s mobile Internet market, with 89 037 nPoints. The company passes head EE, the last year’s winner, thanks to its excellent performances on download speed. The efforts the company did on the previous year have worked.
The subscribers of Three enjoyed the best average mobile download speed (108 Mb/s) during the last two semesters.
- Download speed indicates the amount of data your connection can receive in one second from the nPerf server. The highest the measured value, the best is the bitrate of your connection. Surfing the Internet, listening to music or downloading large files require a good download speed. Download speed is measured in megabits per second (Mb/s).
EE threatens the new number one, with less than 4 000 nPoints less. The operator has yet very good performances, especially when it comes to QoE measurements.
Vodafone remains third. Not a lot has changed compared to last year when it comes to the third place. Even if its final score is around 11 000 points less than the second operator, the company has still efforts to make.
O2 finishes at the bottom of the ranking for several years in a row. Its results in upload speed in particular are far lower than its competitors’. Even if, the operator has the best latency over the period, the score gap with its competitor is still too large to close this year.
- The latency indicates the delay a small packet of data needs to make a round-trip from your device to a server. It describes how responsive your connection is: the time between sending information and receiving it. The shorter the delay, the most reactive is your connection. Latency is measured in milliseconds (ms).
5G results
Three mobile’s subscribers enjoyed the best average 5G download speed during the last two semesters.
With 278.73 Mb/s as download speed in 5G, the winner has an incredible performance compared to its competitors.
nPerf, a French company based in Lyon, and with more than 10 years of experience measuring Internet connections around the world, uses a worldwide dedicated servers network, which is optimized to deliver enough bitrate to saturate your connection, so that we can measure its bitrate accurately.
nPerf speed test is compatible with all broadband and mobile connections: ADSL, VDSL, cable, optical fiber FTTH / FTTB, satellite, wifi, wimax, cellular 2G / 3G / 4G (LTE), 5G.
